April 2010

Easter has come and gone, and I trust you enjoyed plenty of coffee with your chocolate!

I'm just playing around with a LatitudeSix page on Facebook - feel free to find it and become a fan!!!

28/1/10

I am about to pack the car with a few of my PNG artifacts and head off to Parachute Music Festival 2010.

If you're going to be there, please come and say hello to me at the Mission Aviation Fellowship stand in the missions tent. I would love to meet you and put faces to names!!! You could even score yourself a free coffee!

Holidays were great, and not quite a distant memory yet! I hope they've been good for you too.

The end of the year is upon us, and I am about to go on leave with my kids for a couple of weeks. Off to enjoy some of NZ's beautiful scenery and catch up with friends!

Nothing quite like a bit of r & r, on a blanket in the sun, with a good coffee of course!!!

I hope that wherever you are and whatever you're doing over these next traditionally quiet business weeks in NZ, that it will be good for you!

I am not making a political comment about PNG - it's such a complex country that I am in no position to pass judgement. I am just letting you know the following though - an occurance that happened when an MAF plane got caught in the middle of some tribal fighting... (written by a staff member in PNG).

On approach into Aiyura airport, our Twin Otter MFB was shot at. A bullet went through the cabin cargo door and exited through the roof. Only superficial damage to the aircraft skin was caused. Pilots flying were Richard Marples and Greg Falland , with coffee and no passengers or cabin attendant. They were unaware of the incident at the time and departed from Aiyura, and subsequently found the damage.

This shot was not intentionally aimed at the plane. However, this is the environment that the staff are sometimes caught in. These guys are there to help the people. Let's support them!!!

Well, winter is well and truly upon us. Nothing quite like stating the obvious to get a moan from the reader!

Here are my top 10 winter warm up ideas...

  1. coffee
  2. snuggle in front of a roaring fire
  3. coffee with a friend
  4. read a good book under mountains of duvets
  5. coffee with your mum/daughter
  6. take a good brisk walk
  7. coffee with your dad/son
  8. watch a movie at home with a friend in front of a good heater
  9. coffee!
  10. coffee!!!

And remember, we not only try to help you keep warm, but you're doing something good for someone else at the same time!!!

Keep on enjoying those coffees!

Easter 08/04/09

I teach a Religious Education class with 29 nine year olds for half an hour a week. Over the last three weeks we've covered the Easter story as told in the Bible. When we got to the end of the story, one of the kids said "Is that it? How does it end?" Which got me thinking - a. I'm not a very good storyteller! and then b. The story of Easter doesn't end - it carries on - through you and me. EEEK!!!

I don't know about you, (and quite frankly I'd rather NOT know!), but there are things I've done that I regret, and I know don't reflect Jesus at all. At times it's like I am causing Jesus' death all over again. I don't want to do this... but it happens sometimes (or more than sometimes if grumping at my kids counts!) And then something else happens - God's forgiveness and grace.

It's majorly unfair - in our favour. And I guess that's why I want to carry the story of Easter on by rectifying some of the unfair factors in the lives of coffee producers. I know that the world isn't a fair place. I also know that coffee farmers are only one group amongst many who are ripped off and unfairly treated. Thanks for joining with me (by buying LatitudeSix coffee!) to help rectify this!

Happy Easter - and coffee goes really well with Chocolate....!

PS - I have heaps of coffee - you bring the chocolate and we'll party!!!!
