LatitudeSix coffee was started in 2006 by Cherie West.
Having returned from Papua New Guinea in 2005 following the death of her husband, Cherie's fresh new vision for the future included developing small business skills that would enable her to continue to work alongside the poor and marginalized around the world, helping them to develop their local economy.
Richard West was a pilot with MAF who also had a vision for helping those less fortunate. During the West's time in PNG Richard saw the needs of those living in isolated areas and villages. One season the remote coffee growers didn't bother picking the coffee from the trees, because it cost more to pick than the profit they would make from it. It is a well known fact that the growers are very often exploited by the buyers of their beans. This troubled both Richard and Cherie's social consciences.
Cherie saw her return to New Zealand as an opportunity to partner with MAF and the ongoing work in local PNG communities, by opening up distribution channels to supply LatitudeSix coffee with conscience for the home pantry, small business offices, gifts, etc.
By buying this product you are helping support what MAF are doing in developing countries. In addition, 10% of sales of LatitudeSix coffeeforcommunities are returned to growers for projects that benefit the whole community. These projects vary depending on needs, but help resource communities for further development.
